Fleas

Flea Remediation

Fleas are insects in the order Siphonaptera, and are external parasites of mammals and birds. The most common flea is the cat flea, "Ctenocephalides felis". In warm climates, like Florida, fleas can also be found on dogs and other mammals.

SIGNS OF FLEAS

Fleas are very small insects that live on warm-blooded animals (like cats) and feed off of their blood. They prefer to live on their host's body rather than in their nests. These little bugs will leave red-brown spots in cats' fur where they have been feeding. Fleas are usually first seen as small moving specks or black dots on a pet's skin or coat. If you think your pet has fleas, take a close look at its coat—fleas can be hard to see with the naked eye.

Fleas can cause anemia in cats if they feed for long periods of time, so it is important to get rid of them as soon as possible. Cats' immune systems are not strong enough to battle off a serious infestation of fleas alone.
